Doctor visit #2

So today was Jon's happiest day since his injury, he had his splint removed and his stitches cut out!
So we got into one of the rooms, and Heather [the nurse] started removing the ace bandages and started to cut off the gauze when i saw her make a funny face...she saw the gawd awful blister. Jon had actually hurt his leg the other day while hoping around the house and he thinks he might have popped the blister then, and when heather pulled the gauze off, the scab and everything else that dried onto the gauze came off with it. To me it looked like a flesh eating disease, but the blister has actually doubled in size, is a bit deeper and a whole lot more nasty! When i saw her face i knew it was bad, so we waited for the surgeon to come in and let us know what he thought. Unfortunately Dr. DiPaola [the surgeon that actually did the surgery] is on vacation the next 2 weeks so one of his colleagues had to check him out, which made me nervous cuz he doesnt know the extent of the injury.
So anyway, the other surgeon walks in and looks straight to the bloody hole on jons leg, and makes a "UGH!" face. He was honest and said it looked pretty bad, but it could be worse. he just wants jon to keep and eye on it, if we notice anymore redness, puss or pain to call them right away. so he gave jon some non-adhesive gauze and an ace-bandage to keep on it till it closes. If the blister does get worse, he'll have to get a skin graft.
The surgeon also wants jon to start exercising his calf muscle. He wants him to start moving his ankle around and pulling his foot towards his shin to start stretching out the muscle again. Jon wants to wait a few more days before he starts that since he just lost the splint and hasnt used his leg at all for 2 weeks. But to start out the surgeon just said to put a towel under his foot and slowly pull his foot backward little by little until he can finally pull it all the way back w/out too much pain.
But jon has his leg back, its like he's a free man lol. i actually got to have a passenger with me today, for the past 2 weeks jon has been hanging out in the back, it was nice to have him back upfront with me!
all the lines from the cast make his leg look worse!
only 20 out of the 25 stitches were out when jon started to feel sick. so i took a picjon's cankle!

I think it's nasty, you think it's AMAZING!

the backside of his right calf, all the fat and his calf muscle.
*click to make bigger at your own risk
the right, under side of his right calf
the left, under side with the massive, nasty blister

the whole back side of his right calf. there is a nice scrape underneath his blister, and all the yellow/green is the bruises.

-The Gimp-

[wrote on 7/9/10 , just never posted it!]

So I [the wife] decided to start a blog about my gimpy husband. Since his injury we get a lot of "how's jon doing", so we decided to just keep a blog and keep everyone updated!
Today, he is doing really good. At this moment he is actually playing with Canberra, raising her up and down with his arm, and now showing her how to take pictures with his phone.Jon finally called his workmans comp. case worker this morning to get things started. All she really did was ask the same questions he's answered a bazillion times, confirm some information, and had him complete an online form and send it in to her to get the ball rollin'. Now i guess we just sit and wait to see/hear what happens next.
